HEMMA - STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - DAY 10
Mom and I slept great! Mom had smörgås, *(bread/cheese/ham spread), and I made another omelette for breakfast.
We hit the town, figuring out the metro from the suburbs. Thankfully, it wasn’t complicated at all, and we are able to get to Gammla Stan in no time, *(Old Town / City). We stop here to walk around and pick up some MORE gifts. This time, Mom wants to buy some small things for our neighbors at home, house-sitting for us.
We pull in to one of these small, tourist shops. She pulls out a calculator to show me the total. It’s no problem- I pay using mom’s cash as Mom stepped outside, but the price didn’t feel right. I follow Mom out of the shop after I pay, and ask her to wait as I look at the receipt, and to look at the price stickers on the items. The total doesn’t add up.
Mom goes back inside with the items and the receipt to speak with the woman, and sure enough, Mom came back out with 24 extra kronor. Granted, this could’ve happened in any country, but I wonder how many people DON'T check.
We carry on, walking through old town. After traveling through Europe with Kay, I know that the cheapest, and most filling thing is ALWAYS Turkish kebabs. It’s without fail that you can get a good meal from these little places for super cheap, and they’re all over Europe. Mom and I stop for lunch here. After my uneasy stomach this morning, this ironically, was just what the doctor had ordered. The color returned to my face, and re-energized, we hit the road again.
We walk through NK for fun, then through Kungstradgården while everyone was setting up for Kulturfest (Culture Party), and walk all the way up to Söder. On our way, we had noticed a TON of construction happening. I don’t know what’s going on, or why, but Stockholm has ripped out half of its city for renovation. The detour from Slussen to Söder was LONG.
After we make it into Söder, we head for my favorite ice cream spot. It doesn’t have a name, I just know where it is. I had saffran ice cream, and Mom had passion fruit sorbet. It’s my absolute favorite, and I can’t come to Stockholm without having it. This was a good resting point to satisfy my craving, and recuperate. I forget that Mom is still jet lagged, and I’m more used to this walk from living here three years ago than she is. I dragged her all over the city just for this ice cream, haha! Poor mom- She's a trooper.
The weather is absolutely perfect, and everyone is out. We sit by a trailer playing New Orleans music, and everyone is curious- The band played INSIDE the trailer. All of the passerbys, including us, had to peak inside a small window to check it out. What a cool concept!
We finish resting, and carry on with remedial tasks. We round the corner, Mom pulls some cash at the ATM, and we pick up some wine and dinner for A.K. before we head back to the ‘burbs.
The three of us wined and dined again- We made salmon and enjoyed a nice, quiet evening. I had three glasses of Svensk mjölk, (Swedish milk), because everyone knows that stuff comes straight from the Gods' tits. It's cow's milk, but it's the GOAT. It’s nearly 11PM now, and we’re going to pack and go to bed.
See you in Gotland tomorrow!
